Early visits help establish a dental home, monitor development, and prevent problems before they start. If your child has more complex needs, we'll refer you to a pediatric dental specialist.

Most children benefit from a dental exam and cleaning every six months. Some children with higher cavity risk may need more frequent visits. Dr. Merchi will recommend the right schedule based on your child's individual needs.

Dental sealants are thin protective coatings applied to the chewing surfaces of back molars to prevent cavities. They are highly effective and recommended for most children once their permanent molars come in, typically around ages 6 and 12.

Our team uses a tell-show-do approach, explains every step in friendly language, and moves at your child's pace. For children with significant anxiety, we can discuss additional comfort options during your consultation. If a child's needs go beyond what we can comfortably provide, we'll refer you to a specialist.

For a knocked-out permanent tooth, call us immediately at (813) 586-1990. Keep the tooth moist — in milk or between your child's cheek and gum — and get to our office as quickly as possible. For a knocked-out baby tooth, it typically does not need to be replanted, but you should still call us so we can evaluate the area.

Talk about the visit in a positive, matter-of-fact way. Avoid using words like 'hurt,' 'shot,' or 'drill.' You can read books about going to the dentist or watch kid-friendly videos. Arriving a few minutes early to let your child explore the waiting area also helps.
